St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Sedona, AZ is seeking a part-time (15-18 hours/week) music director to support the spiritual growth of our faith community. We currently offer a 9am service on Sundays and a contemplative Taize service at 7pm on Saturdays. Qualifications: Candidates for this position must be proficient in playing piano, and preferably the organ, and have at least 3 years experience as a church musician leading a volunteer adult choir. Sensitivity to the identity and mission of St. Andrew’s is necessary for effectiveness in this role. Strong relational skills, orientation toward a ministry of service, and a positive personal attitude. Absolute dependability, ability to communicate clearly and honestly. Competency with Ableton Live preferred, but not required. Primary Responsibilities: Plan for and provide all music for worship services with emphasis on congregational participation and choral leadership. Direct a volunteer choir to serve in ministry on Sunday mornings and for special liturgies.
Music is integral to our worship at St. Andrew’s. We offer traditional hymns from Episcopal hymnals (Hymnal 1982, Wonder Love & Praise, Voices Found, and Lift Every Voice and Sing), and are exploring music resources of other denominations, as well as “paperless music,” to inspire new kinds of singing in community.
We own a Rodgers Trillium T837 organ, a Baldwin grand piano, and a Yamaha upright piano. Local guest musicians are occasionally invited for special services, including bagpipers for St. Andrew’s patronal feast day in November.
