Dr. Fran Grace, Professor of Religious Studies at the University of the Redlands CA, will present “The Power of Love in Turbulent Times” at St. Andrew’s on Friday, June 8, from 6:00-7:30pm in the Sanctuary.
Grace is an award-winning educator and recipient of fellowships from Yale, Princeton, and the American Academy of Religion. She is a prolific author and speaker on matters related to religion, education, and history. Her work has been cited on CSPAN, NPR, and the Huffington Post.
In her presentation Grace will share ways that ordinary people can help transform and heal themselves and others by tapping into the human capacity to love, especially during times of social upheaval.
The concept of people serving as carriers of love is a core theme in Grace’s writings, and her research includes interviews with diverse experts: spiritual teachers, scientists, activists and artists. “Unconditional Love in the Face of Hatred: Applications of a Timeless Teaching” appeared in the International Journal of Philosophy and Theology in December 2017. Her forthcoming book is titled simply The Power of Love.
Grace received a Master of Divinity degree from Austin Theological Seminary TX and her PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary NJ. She is steward of the University of Redlands’ Meditation Room program, the first contemplative college classroom in the US. She is also Founding Director of Inner Pathway, a non-profit dedicated to inspirational values common among many religions, such as truth, compassion, inner peace, and joy.
Dr. Grace, a former St. Andrew’s parishioner, is offering the program in honor of our beloved Kelley, whom we all knew for her commitment to love and community. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.
