Chile Farm Blessing & Potluck Brunch
Sunday, August 5, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Rev. Monica will lead St. Andrew’s parishioners and friends in a blessing of our beautifully expanded chile pepper garden on Sunday, August 5, after the 9:00am service. A potluck brunch will follow.
The peppers are grown, harvested, and ground to create Holy Smokes, an earthy, medium-hot spice. The Chile Farm not only brings together people who love to garden, it provides a saleable crop that helps support St. Andrew’s’ ministries.
This summer almost 500 heirloom Chimayo chile plants, a variety cultivated by Pueblo people for generations in New Mexico, are growing next to the Parish Hall, thanks to a fellowship of chile wranglers. This spring they, St. Andrew’s’ volunteers, and professional labor cleared the area, installed new irrigation and lighting, built the stone columns, put up wire fencing, and planted the seedlings. Volunteers continue to tend the garden, look forward to harvest, chile powder sales, and increasing integration into the broader parish and community. May these efforts serve our charge to Love God and Live the Good News of Jesus Christ.
